Looking Up
Good morning,
The butterflies were very cool last week. The kids were able to hold them and to pet caterpillars. Today, we are going on another field trip. This time it is to the Museum of Music. This should be fun.
This week's feature article is one I wrote last year for Dove and am now able to use however I like. Since it is about that time of year again, I thought I would share it with all of you before I post it to the website.
Have a great week!
take care,
Skye Thomas

Quote of the Week:
Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief she is beautiful. -
In a man's middle years there is scarcely a part of the body he would hesitate to
turn over to the proper authorities. -
A beautiful lady is an accident of nature. A beautiful old lady is a work of art.

From Prom to Mom and Back Again

As teenagers, we were not afraid to spend too much money on a new outfit, try the
newest color of eye shadow, or wear those sexy little panties. When did we become
so frumpy and dull? Most of us gave ourselves permission to stop hyper-
Being frugal, practical, sensible, more laid back and comfortable made us less sexy.
It is the price we pay for being selfless and giving so much of ourselves away to
others. There is no time, money, or energy left for primping and prancing about.
Age does not rob us of our sex appeal, wanting to feel "comfortable" does. It takes
a lot of time and effort to hunt for an outfit that looks sexy and feels comfortable
enough to wear it while out running errands with the kids in tow. It takes time
and effort to find push up bras, sexy underwear, manicurists, and hairdressers at
an economical price that won't make us feel like we are being selfish and screwing
up the family budget. It takes time and effort to learn how to do your own manicures
and pedicures, and then to actually do them. Some women never do learn how to paint
their nails without making a big mess of it. My daughter may be one of them! She
rarely wears polish even as a teen because it's such a hassle to get it on correctly
and then to handle herself in a way that doesn't cause them to be chipped and messy

Moms and career women often lose their sex appeal as a result. Women who are wealthy enough to hire help, to still be able to splurge on themselves, and/or who just don't have all that many responsibilities often maintain their loveliness for decades after the rest of us begin to frump and grump.
As I watch my daughter today, I think about all of the times I opted for a nap instead of a workout, all of the times I chose to spend a little more money on the kids instead of myself, all of the times I made cookies instead of painting my nails, and all of the times I chose to wear granny panties for comfort instead of those darn thongs. I am not sorry I made those choices. They added a different kind of happiness to my life. Feeling sexy is a lovely and wonderfully empowering thing, but so is saying; "I don't have to do that right this minute. I give myself permission to NOT be visually perfect right now." I am not advocating frumpiness. I am just saying that it is logical, it feels good, and it is so much easier than constantly having to look like a princess.
However, I also think that tonight I will paint my fingers and toes. I am going to tweeze my brows and I will fix my hair a little nicer than I would for a normal Saturday evening at home. I will wear a pretty dress too. It will be a loose flowing one that feels about as nice as when I wear my nightgown, but it will be prettier than my sweats. Today, I will treat myself to just a bit of "princess."
I really do believe that all women can have those princess moments at any age. All
women can feel sexy at any age. It simply involves giving ourselves permission to
say that we are worthy of the time, money, and effort needed to pamper, primp, and
spoil ourselves just a bit. I am reminded of my daughter when she dressed up for
her first winter formal a couple of years ago. I fixed her hair, helped her into
her dress, and then turned her around so she could see herself in the mirror. When
